Creating and assigning plans

How to build a cycle-based plan in ClimbrLab, the difference between a template and an individual plan, and how to assign one with its start date.

The app interface is currently in Spanish only. Buttons and messages are quoted as you will see them, with the English meaning in brackets.

Creating a plan

In Planes de sesiones (Session plans), the Nuevo plan (New plan) button asks for:

  • Name and optional description
  • Cycle type: macrocycle, mesocycle or microcycle
  • Weeks and sessions per week (7 maximum)

Those last two numbers define the plan’s grid: weeks × sessions. Inside you can add exercises to each day and prescribe sets, target, rest and notes for each one. Reorder by dragging.

You can also add groupings, which are blocks of exercises you saved earlier for reuse. They live in Templates → Sesiones (Templates → Sessions).

Template or individual plan

This is the distinction most worth being clear about:

Everything you create from “Planes de sesiones” is a template. It belongs to no athlete: it is a mould you reuse with several people.

An individual plan is created from the athlete’s profile, on their training tab, and is exclusive to that person. It will not show up in your template list.

The practical rule: if you are going to repeat that structure with more people, make it a template. If it is an adaptation for one specific athlete, make it individual.

To start from a template and modify it, use Duplicar (Duplicate): it creates “{name} (copia)” and you work on that without touching the original.

Assigning to an athlete

On the athlete’s profile, training tab:

  1. Usar plantilla existente (Use existing template) - choose from the list, which shows each one’s weeks and sessions
  2. El plan empieza el (The plan starts on) - the start date

About that date: only Mondays can be selected. Plan weeks run Monday to Sunday, and anchoring the start to a Monday is what makes week 3 of the plan the same week 3 for everyone so the numbers line up.

Press Asignar plan (Assign plan) and the athlete will see it in their Mi planificación (My plan).

What the athlete sees

Their plan in read-only mode: they can consult and follow it, but not modify it. When they complete a session you get a notification, with the loads they noted and whatever feedback they chose to leave (effort, mood, discomfort and notes).

That feedback is half the value of the plan: it is what tells you whether the load you set on paper matches what the athlete is actually absorbing.
